Calling all writers!

Upcoming topics:
Topic Due
Envy Sept. 15
Excuses Oct. 15
Inspiration Nov. 15

We know you’re out there. Every day, you send us reflections, essays, stories about your lives. And every week, we wonder if we can give more of you a chance to get printed.

Well, now we’re giving you a little extra room to flex your writing muscles. We’re getting ready to introduce a feature we call “variations on a theme.” It works like this: We provide a topic. “Envy,” say. You send us a few paragraphs about an experience you’ve had with envy. Sky’s the limit -- as long as it uses our topic as a starting point and it’s a true story from your own life. We’re looking for candor and honesty. Oh, and it has to be 375 words or less.

Right now, we’re planning to run a few of these every six weeks or so, with the first one starting Oct. 21. As with letters to the editor, we can’t offer payment. But we hope it gives our readers a chance to introduce themselves to us and to each other. Everybody has a story to tell.

Send your themes to: themes@ncronline.org. You can also send them by regular mail to Themes, Antonia Ryan, NCR, 115 E. Armour Blvd., Kansas City MO 64111. Or fax them to 816-968-2280. We ask that you include your name, city and state, mailing address, phone number and e-mail, if you have one. We reserve the right to edit all submissions; if yours is chosen, we’ll let you approve of the edited version before it’s printed.
